Abstract
This paper examines the Finnish and Swedish debate on the decisions about whether or not to adopt the euro in January 1999. These choices are considered in the context of the Finnish and Swedish approaches to the EU in general. This is a part of a larger research project that will culminate in a Ph.D. thesis on Finnish and Swedish approaches to the EU with case studies on EMU, EU enlargement and relations with the Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania), and transparency (in terms of public access to official documents).
