    Abstract

    From the Introduction. The relationship between European citizenship and national citizenship is a sweetsour one. If European citizenship is ‘destined to be the fundamental status of the nationals of the Member States’,3 and despite the consistent (?) efforts of the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU, the Court) to give it autonomous status in relation to any other EU or national concept, it nonetheless relies heavily upon national citizenship.
