Abstract

From its inception 25 years ago, the ESRI has been engaged in short-term macroeconomic forecasting. Indeed one of the first published papers was entitled Shortterm Economic Forecasting and its Application to Ireland. Si nee 1968, the Institute has been producing a regular Quarterly Economic Commentary (QEC). The QEC contains a review of current economic developments at home and abroad, a forecast for the year ahead, and an assessment of the major short-term policy issues. Judging by the amount of attention it receives in the press, the QEC has become the Institute's best known publication.
