Abstract
This paper reviews some of the ways in which the "Polish plumber" discussions in the EU--first in France, then in the UK--gave form to the racialization of citizens of the recently EU-member, erstwhile-state-socialist states of east-central Europe. It argues that this process is crucial to the political dynamics that have led to the Brexit crisis and reveal an implicit, racialist dimension in European integration.
