Abstract

[From the Introduction]. On 12 October 2006, the French General Assembly adopted a proposal for a law intending to penalise the denial of the existence of the Armenian genocide (Proposition de Loi tendant à réprimer la contestation de l’existence du genocide arménien).(1) While the law remains currently submerged in the French decisionmaking process, and will need the approval of the Senate and the final signature by the President of the Republic before its formal adoption,(2) it has already provoked a cascade of reactions at national and EU level.
