Abstract
[From the Introduction]. In this talk, I would like to discuss four questions: (1) What has the division of policymaking labor been between the European Community and the German government in dealing with the GDR? (2) How was the European Community perceived in the GDR before the fall of the SED regime? (3) What role did the Community play in the East German revolution? (4) How is the EC perceived today in the five new Lander, keeping in mind the difficult economic problems in eastern Germany?
