Abstract
Globalisation is constantly redefining the processes of individual and collective identity construction. What we are experiencing is a transition period whose consequences are not clear and may be totally unexpected. What appears more clearly is the deconstruction of a world, which has been built by the modern concept of nation-states, which over the last three centuries gave rise to any form of sense of belonging to a collective identity. If the State suffers blows from all directions, however, it holds and reacts; probably because there is no clear conceptualization, in institutional terms, of the new effective and post-modern centers of powers. Nowadays, identity and sense of belonging assume sense only in a glocal dimension that sums up the tensions in the direction of local and global at the same time.
