Abstract

Despite the common heritage of the Mediterranean populations, the Mediterranean remains a mosaic of cultures and a melting pot of civilizations too often characterized by divisions and conflicts. The EuroMediterranean Partnership represents a completely new pattern in the North-South Mediterranean relations that can lead to a better mutual understanding through cooperation in the human, social and cultural fields beyond the traditional political and economic fields. Only when mutual distrust is chased away, will the main goal of the EuroMediterranean partners-stability and prosperity in the Mediterranean-be achieved.
