    Abstract

The essay examines the modifications to the fixed term contracts discipline introduced by law n. 92/2012, underlining all the innovations (first contract without temporary needs, the role of collective bargaining, continuation of the contract after expiry, intervals between contracts, etc.). The author points out that, even though the reform partially limits the diffusion of fixed term contracts, it in fact increases the spread of this kind of contract as a means of entering the labour market and as a substitution for the probation period. For this reason there is the risk of a growing precariousness, above all in the hiring of young workers. The essay ends with the analysis of the potential breaching of the non regression clause established by the European Union Directive 1999/70/CE.
