Getting Started: a quick guide for first-time contributors to the AEI

For more complete instructions on using the AEI, see ARCHIVE OF EUROPEAN INTEGRATION HELP, User Documentation.

First-time depositors and registration. All first-time depositors must register. Instructions for registration:

  • Click on Register on the menu bar at the top of the screen. Fill in all information on the Create Account/Change Password page, then click on Submit. The AEI will automatically send you an e-mail message containing a URL with which to activate your new username and password. Visit the URL and complete the registration process by signing on with your username and password, and completing your personal information.
  • Click on Registered Users Area on the front page. Enter your user ID and password, click OK. This takes you to your User Area -- this is the page from which you begin deposits.
Post-registration depositing. Once you have registered, each time you return to the AEI to deposit materials, simply click on Registered User's Area, put in your ID and password, and you will go directly to your User Area. From this page:
  • For a new deposit: click on the Click here to start uploading a document button and follow instructions.
  • To finish a deposit you began at an earlier visit: depositors can fill in some information about a deposit and return later to complete the deposit -- the AEI will store your work in your User Area. All pending deposits will be listed in the dialogue box at the top of the page: to resume working on a deposit begun earlier, select the one you want to work on again and click the Edit button, then follow instructions.
If your deposit is part of a Series or Conference, we need to know about the series or conference before your deposit is added to the Archive. If your conference or series is not listed when you browse the archive, contact the AEI editor at aei.library.pitt.edu and provide the following: name of the series or conference; name of the institution which sponsors the series or conference; location of the institution; name of any larger institution which the sponsoring institution is a part of. Examples: if a Department of Political Science is part of the Institute for European Studies, which is part of a university, the AEI would need the names and hierarchy of all three institutions. The editor will confirm the name of the conference or series with you, add the conference or series to the archive, and inform you when deposits can begin.

Help. The AEI editors will be happy to provide assistance in case you encounter difficulties. You can e-mail aei@library.pitt.edu either directly or from the website.
